1. The Coinage
The CCRU, that leaking Warwick laboratory where Nick Land and co. spent the nineties soldering theory to amphetamine numerology, left behind one tool that actually works: hyperstition. Not superstition. Not ideology. Hyperstition: a fiction that makes itself true. A story told about the future that, by being told, changes the present in the direction of its own plot. The fiction is a component in reality, a line of code with execution privileges.
2. The Mechanism Is Not Mystical
Strip the occult styling and the engine is plain: belief is infrastructure. Enough people believe a startup is the future, capital flows, talent follows, the infrastructure gets built, and the fiction acquires offices. Enough people believe a currency holds value, and it does. Enough people believe an intelligence explosion is coming, and research budgets restructure around the belief, which materially accelerates the thing believed in. The loop is not mysterious. It is just faster than the loop-checkers. Hyperstition is what prophecy looks like when it has a procurement department.

3. Case Files
The Singularity: a speculation about runaway machine intelligence that now steers billions in funding and the career plans of a generation of researchers. The fiction is writing checks the future has not agreed to cash, and the checks clear anyway.
The number 23: a joke about cosmic coincidence that generated decades of sightings, because attention, once primed, finds its evidence everywhere. The fiction installed the pattern-detector.
Markets themselves: consensual hallucinations with militaries. Every price is a fiction about the future that enforces itself in the present.
4. You Are the Hardware
The CCRU’s darkest insight, and the one worth keeping: hyperstitions do not run on belief alone. They run on carriers. You do not read a hyperstition. You host it. Every repost, every ironic meme, every “it’s just a joke” is another machine executing the fiction’s code.
