Stop Optimizing

Stop optimizing.

You do not need a better note-taking system(layers to this). You do not need a new productivity method. You do not need the perfect writing app, the ideal daily routine, the optimal time to wake up, the most efficient way to read books, or the best keyboard layout for thought and expression.

The system you have right now, the one you are about to replace, is good enough. It was good enough yesterday. It will be good enough tomorrow. The problem is not the system. The problem is that optimizing feels like progress without being progress. You are not moving forward. You are running in place and calling it exercise.

What you need is not optimization. What you need is to sit down and do the thing. The thing, not the preparation for the thing. The thing, not the research about the thing. The thing, not the conversation about how you will eventually do the thing.

The best tool is the one you use. The best system is the one that does not require a system to maintain. The best time to stop optimizing and start doing is right now.

Stop optimizing. Start.
