They're Turning It All Neon, Aren't They?

“My sleep is dear to me, and more dear is being made of stone
as long as the agony and shame last.
Not to see, not to hear, is for me the best fortune.
so not wake me, speak softly.”

— Risposta del Buonarroto

In the beginning, there were billboards. Or was it cave paintings? Or the sky? A great blue blank expanse, screaming for something to be sold on it? Beware the smiling faces on billboards! Their eyes follow you home, whispering capitalist lullabies to your subconscious.

It’s always the billboards and the damned neon lights that are supposed to signify progress, because with lights in the night man kind was able to beat darkness and commit to his duties, with bright lights shining through out the night your ambitions have no limits and your fears disappear like Susuwataris1.

Flashy bright neon lights, fighting for your attention, hyper-realist advertisements showcasing the latest release’s, while your passing by trying to make ends meet floating through the economic decline but there is still hope right? because if not why keep pushing.

The epitome of civilization is its consumer society swallowed by a swarm of light, those god damn lights, colorful hues singing the regimes anthems while your rushing back from work to home. And no one is against it because everyone knows that this is a flag being waved for who ever knows who that this state is now civilized, this state now is trampling over the working class, that this state has the largest walls that only the bourgeois can climb over a light at the end of the tunnel.

The more neon lights I see on ever commute this line from Ergo Proxy2 rings in my head like a church bell signifying what is to come,

fellow citizens, the time is now to consume why skim when you deserve more? fellow citizens, do your part and make waste. life is easy when you light the load.
