They're Turning It All Neon, Aren't They?

“My sleep is dear to me, and more dear is being made of stone
as long as the agony and shame last.
Not to see, not to hear, is for me the best fortune.
so not wake me, speak softly.”

    — Risposta del Buonarroto

In the beginning, there were billboards. Or was it cave paintings? Or the sky? A great blue blank expanse, screaming for something to be sold on it? Beware the smiling faces on billboards! Their eyes follow you home, whispering capitalist lullabies to your subconscious.

It’s always the billboards and the damned neon lights that are supposed to signify progress, because with lights in the night man kind was able to beat darkness and commit to his duties, with bright lights shining through out the night your ambitions have no limits and your fears disappear like Susuwataris1.

Flashy bright neon lights, fighting for your attention, hyper-realist advertisements showcasing the latest release’s, while your passing by trying to make ends meet floating through the economic decline but there is still hope right? because if not why keep pushing.

The epitome of civilization is its consumer society swallowed by a swarm of light, those god damn lights, colorful hues singing the regimes anthems while your rushing back from work to home. And no one is against it because everyone knows that this is a flag being waved for who ever knows who that this state is now civilized, this state now is trampling over the working class, that this state has the largest walls that only the bourgeois can climb over a light at the end of the tunnel.

The more neon lights I see on ever commute this line from Ergo Proxy2 rings in my head like a church bell signifying what is to come,

fellow citizens, the time is now to consume why skim when you deserve more? fellow citizens, do your part and make waste. life is easy when you light the load.

Why Do You Care What Others Say?

We Love ourselves more than other people but for some reason we care about other peoples opinion so much

    art

So why write this? I usually find myself giving a care about what other people think and say of me, so i do need to get over this and did a little digging around contemplating philosophizing and what not and some of them do work. I definitely am not saying that i do not care what other people think of cause i am also a victim of that but when i do find myself there i try to get ahead of it.

    Topics

    Within The Dichotomy Of Control

You can’t waste your time thinking what other people are doing or saying.

Seneca one of the stoic philosophers has this concept of the Dichotomy of Control in which he explains that man has is capable of controlling only what his actions are. Lets say if you were to go out today and it starts raining you can’t get mad at the weather because the weather is out of your control the only thing you can control is how you react within that weather.

Even the serenity prayer tells you this

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference” you can find more breakdown Here

The Same concept applies to what other people think and say of you, what is within your control is the character you display and the path your own. People Will talk and that is what they are good for. But letting that stray you from your path is not the goal. Happiness is about what you do and say not what other people do and say. Also ask yourself “Who are they?”, people you look up to and respect might not be of the character you want to be or what they show themselves to be so ask yourself. Ask “and do they really criticize your actions”, because certainly we suffer more in imagination that reality, go up to the people you think are burdening you and look at there actions or ask them point blank, cause sometimes things are not what we think them to be.

Have Self-respect, Joan Didion once said “Self respect frees you from the expectation of others it gets you to yourself”. Ask yourself “Who are you?” not an easy question but always remind yourself before taking action is this what you want to do is this the person you want to become?.

    Societal Roles

What are the societal implication of not caring and caring what other people think, now this does happen to have its boundaries. Society is the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community. The Role societies play is an essential one. It passes down traditions, beliefs, values, and customs from one generation to the next, It teaches necessary skills and knowledge for survival and success of individuals but at what cost?. The reason one should not care about societal assumptions over the individual is, if the assumption or the action in question is forcing the individual to conflict with moral and ethical issues, it is holding your from growing, finding peace?. Its the basic stuff we all learned in school or “Civics Classes”.

Immanuel Kant one of the German Philosophers from the Enlightenment Thinkers era, believed in the importance of individual autonomy and enlightenment. He famously encouraged people to “dare to know” (Sapere aude) and to think for themselves. He argued that individuals should use their reason to question societal norms and assumptions rather than blindly following them. This was essential for achieving true enlightenment and moral autonomy. Kant’s deontological ethics, particularly his concept of the categorical imperative, requires individuals to act according to principles that can be universally applied. This involves critically examining societal rules to ensure they align with universal moral principles.

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel also another famous philosopher from German who was one of the influential figures of German idealism and 19th-century philosophy,Believed that the development of society and consciousness occurs through a dialectical process, which involves the synthesis of opposing ideas (thesis and antithesis). Questioning societal assumptions is a necessary part of this process, as it leads to the evolution of higher forms of understanding and more developed social structures. Hegel viewed history as a rational process where human freedom and self-consciousness unfold over time. To understand and advance this process, individuals must critically engage with and question existing societal norms and assumptions, facilitating progress toward greater freedom and self-awareness. So according to Hegel and Kant the individuals moral, ethical and conscious growth arises from questions the societal assumptions burdened upon them. Like My kid can ask me “Who is that” i can reply “she is your mom”, and he asks “Why is she my mom”, and i would reply “Because she is the only woman willing to sleep with me”.

Jokes aside there are Benefits of following societal assumptions and finding what identity is but if that means your internal suffering, do what makes you happy. But be conscious that as Orwell said “Freedom is the ultimate slavery”

Because if we are truly free them we are enslaved to the things we think free us, its also a concept Byung-Chul Han a south-Korean philosopher and cultural theorist, which for some random reason resides in Germany, Tried to analyze in his book burnout society, how capitalism persuades us that we are truly free and enslaves us in the chains of productivity, producing more, being more effective and so on. In simple words his book burn out society shows us how the current system of the so called free nation leads an individual to Self-Exploitation, Loss of focus and Lack of meaning. Hence supporting the idea of being ultimately free can bite us back in the end.

My Overall take on the implications of societal assumption, is for the individual to self-criticize and analyze their actions “Did you do what you said you were going to do?”, “Are You on the right path?” also be comfortable being the odd man out. Zeno of Citium who is famously known to be the father of stoicism even suffered from social anxiety, his philosopher Mentor Crates of Thebes realized that Zeno was self-conscious what other people thought of him, Crates asked him to carry this large cauldron of soup across town, He knows Zeno is self-conscious and would sneak around not to be seen by the people of the town and he caught him, and right when he was in front of people crates hits the pot with his stuff and eventually the soup spills all over Zeno and of course Zeno is embarrassed and ran of, crates called him out and tells him that no harm has befallen him because some people are looking at him. None of this people know who you are and they don’t care, they will immediately forget once you are gone.

Everyone is naturally self-conscious, your stressing about what to wear when going out cause you are afraid of people judging you.Check out Spotlight effect i might as well say you have to be the Diogenes of the society until you have truly found out what works best for you and what the right path in your life is. I do struggle with this issues as well more than i would like to admit, but this is something you work on and improve over time, and as a side note do not use this to become stubborn and stagnate your views, accept what the society says but be wise enough to analyze it and get to a conclusion by yourself.

    Where to Go

So what do you do next?, you have understood what your able to control and what you are not, you have found your rights and wrongs within the societal assumptions you have analyzed and criticized.

Now is time to shape your path and work on your goals, cause in the end what matters is you being true to yourself and doing what leads you to a feeling of fulfillment, Do not burden yourself so much that you regret your choices on your death bed.

It is hard not to listen to critics sometimes it is constructive and for the better sometimes it is ill, so do differentiate and enjoy life.

Frenchie and Albert Camus — Tea Leaves & Thoughts

    cinema

    Frenchie and Albert Camus

    two struggling heroes

    frenchie

Frenchie, a character from the popular Amazon Prime Video series The Boys, which inherently i have fallen in love with, and Albert Camus i mean if you don’t know who Albert Camus is What are you doing with your life ? HUH ? Get educated !!

Camus is French philosopher, writer, and journalist, how the fuck am i comparing a philosopher and a movie character come on its me uk me i got the philosophy in my blood just like the V.

But they share many similarities. Both Frenchie and Camus were outsiders who struggled to find their place in the world. They were both idealists who fought for what they believed in, even when it was difficult. And they both had a deep understanding of the human condition, including the darkness and the light.

And They both love dancing in algers just saying

    frenchie

    camus-dance

Frenchie is a French Resistance fighter who joins the Boys, a vigilante group that fights superheroes who have become corrupt and abusive. He is a skilled mechanic and weapons expert, but he is also a kind and compassionate person. He is often the voice of reason in the group, and he always tries to see the good in people. And is high most of the time, gotta love that.

Albert Camus was a French philosopher, writer, and journalist. He is best known for his essays on the Absurd, such as The Myth of Sisyphus and The Rebel. Camus believed that the universe is indifferent to human suffering, but that humans should still strive to find meaning in life. Get yourself a cup of coffee if you know what i mean.

One of the key similarities between Frenchie and Camus is their understanding of the Absurd. The Absurd is the conflict between human beings’ desire for meaning and purpose and the reality that the universe is meaningless and indifferent.

Frenchie experiences the Absurd on a daily basis. He sees the corruption and abuse of power by superheroes, and he knows that he is unlikely to ever be able to change the world. But even in the face of this absurdity, Frenchie never gives up hope. He continues to fight for what he believes in, even when it is difficult.

Camus also believed that the world is absurd. He wrote that “the only way to deal with an absurd world is to live without appeal.” This means living without the hope of reward or meaning, but simply because it is the only way to live.

Another key similarity between Frenchie and Camus is their rebellion against the Absurd. Camus believed that humans should rebel against the Absurd by living life to the fullest and fighting for what they believe in.

Frenchie embodies this rebellion. He fights against the corrupt superheroes, even though he knows that he is unlikely to win. He also rebels against the indifference of the universe by finding meaning in his relationships with his friends and in his fight for justice.

He even fight through the discomfort faced to him by his leaders first nina then butcher going all berserk on the temp V. And his abusive Dad.

Frenchie and Camus both had a deep understanding of the human condition, including the darkness and the light. Frenchie knows that people are capable of great evil, but he also believes that they are capable of great good. Camus also believed that humans are capable of both good and evil. He wrote that “man is the only creature that knows that he is mortal, and the only one who refuses to know it.”

Frenchie’s understanding of the human condition is evident in his relationship with Kimiko. Kimiko is a former supervillain who has been traumatized by her experiences. Frenchie helps Kimiko to heal and to find her humanity. He shows her that there is still good in the world, even though she has seen the worst of it.

Frenchie and Albert Camus are two struggling heroes who share many similarities. They are both outsiders who have a deep understanding of the human condition. They are both idealists who fight for what they believe in, even when it is difficult. And they both rebel against the absurdity of the universe.

Frenchie and Camus’ stories are important because they remind us that there is always hope, even in the darkest of times. They also remind us that we should never give up on our ideals, no matter how difficult things may seem.

    Daddy is Home; Homelander

    Spoilers Ahead Proceed with caution

So i recently started watching The Boys a 2019 series movie that shows what superheros would really be like if they existed unlike Marvel and DC movies with unrealistic depiction of the selfless heroes. The boys depicts a world where super heroes and average humans coexist whilst the superheros are praised and worshiped like idols and looked unto. But the twist here is that we see that this so called heroes are human beings and have their own shortcomings and are not perfect beings, they lie, cheat, steal abusing their powers for their own desires.

And one the main icons or lead character in this movie is homelander the most powerful superhero portrayed in the movie. Homelander is an odd sheep of the group, now one thing to note in the boys universe is that superpowers are not God gifted or caused by some kind of mutations, they are chemically produced in labs and injected to human subjects in labs.

So homelander is one raised in labs isolated from human interaction raised without real parents and real family connection. So through out the series we the viewer are taken along to watch how Homelander the beloved iconic figure reacts to certain situations.

And here we are introduced to homelander’s relationship with the vought CEO
Madelyn Stillwell not to drag things any longer, we see some weird mother son like interaction with homelander and Madelyn and some weird scenes too.

    goodboy

Sigmund Freud moment intensifies So what is happening here? As i said before Homelander is a lab rat does not know what having a feminine role model or a masculine role model is, so most of the time we see homelander get overprotective towards Madelyn, getting pissed at her, following her leads… So on and so on. So Madelyn being the iconic representation of a mother for homelander let’s him be as he wants.

    Stan

And this is where we see the father figure come in. Stan Edgar so after the death of Madelyn (if you want to know how she died just watch the movie) Stan Edgar came in as a replacement to Madelyn and shows Homelander what the feeling of having a male leading figure in the house is like, he does not let homelander do as he wishes does not succumb to his wishes.

He straightened him up, as a consequence to this we see homelander getting harsh with his son, trying to be the masculine figure that his son can look up to and respect him as well and follow in the footsteps which he lays for him as Stan did when he came to power

    raisinghimwrong

    lethimdoit

So what i am trying to say here is i smell Oedipus Complex Oedipus Complex

One of the most prominent Freudian concepts in Homelander’s character is the Oedipus complex. The Oedipus complex is a psychosexual stage of development in which a child experiences unconscious sexual attraction to the opposite-sex parent and rivalry with the same-sex parent. Homelander exhibits a number of signs of an unresolved Oedipus complex, including:

    • Intense jealousy of his father, Soldier Boy, who is also a superhero. and also Stan who put him in line an icon of father figure
    • Sexual attraction to his mother, Madelyn Stillwell, who is the CEO of Vought International, the company that created Homelander.
    • A need to be the most powerful and worshipped person in the world.

Homelander is also a deeply narcissistic individual. Narcissism is a personality disorder characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, a need for admiration, and a lack of empathy for others. Homelander believes that he is better than everyone else and that he deserves to be worshipped. He is also incapable of feeling empathy for others, even when they are suffering.

And that is because obviously he was a lab rat dude was grown isolated in a lab. Does not know what true genuine human connection is.

Homelander’s narcissism and unresolved Oedipus complex lead him to develop a number of defense mechanisms. Defense mechanisms are unconscious strategies that people use to protect themselves from anxiety and guilt. Homelander’s defense mechanisms include:

    • Projection: He projects his own negative qualities onto others, seeing them as evil or inferior.
    • Splitting: He sees people in black and white terms, as either good or bad
    • Denial: He denies his own weaknesses and shortcomings. We can see this when starlight was pushed up the ladder to become cocaptain along side him. Even though he did not like the decision it was forced upon him by Stan, he knows he is not able to do anything to Stan so he reinforces his authority and power on A-train(when a A-train told him “fuck you”, you’ll get the whole point if you watched the movie)

Homelander’s character is a complex and fascinating case study in Freudian psychology. He exhibits a number of key concepts from Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis, including the Oedipus complex, narcissism, and defense mechanisms. Homelander’s mental state is deeply disturbed, and his behavior is often unpredictable and dangerous.

In addition to the above, it is also worth noting that Homelander’s upbringing played a significant role in shaping his personality being raised as a lab rat and lacking proper human interaction and a family.

And this is where the boys stand out it shows us that most seemingly perfect people can have dark and hidden secrets.

    Introduction

Vinland Saga is a historical fiction manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura. It tells the story of Thorfinn Karlsefni, a young boy who witnesses the murder of his father, Thors, by the mercenary Askeladd. Thorfinn vows to avenge his father’s death, and he joins Askeladd’s band of warriors in order to challenge him to a duel.

Over the course of his journey, Thorfinn undergoes a significant philosophical transformation. He begins as a violent and vengeful young man, but he eventually comes to realize that violence is not the answer. He learns to value peace and compassion, and he sets out to find a place where people can live together in harmony (Vinland).

    Thorfinn’s Philosophy

Thorfinn’s philosophy is a blend of pacifism and stoicism. He believes that violence is never the answer, and that it only leads to more violence. He also believes that it is important to be strong and resilient in the face of adversity.

Thorfinn’s philosophy is influenced by his father, Thors. Thors was a kind and gentle man who believed in peace and understanding. He taught Thorfinn that a true warrior is someone who can control their anger and violence and also is able to understand what is within their scope of control.

Thorfinn’s philosophy is also influenced by his experiences. He has seen the horrors of war and violence, and he knows that they are not the way to solve problems. He has also seen the power of compassion and forgiveness, and he believes that these are the qualities that will ultimately lead to peace.

    Thorfinn’s Journey

Thorfinn’s journey is a journey of self-discovery. He begins as a lost and angry young man, but he eventually finds his way to a more peaceful and compassionate path, a path of the Stoics.

Thorfinn’s journey is also a journey of growth. He learns to control his anger, he learns to forgive, and he learns to value peace and understanding.

Thorfinn’s journey is not over yet, but he is well on his way to finding a place where people can live together in harmony. which he also learned from his dad, a place called Vinland

    Conclusion

Thorfinn’s philosophy is a powerful one, and it is one that is still relevant today. In a world that is often divided by violence and hatred, Thorfinn’s message of peace and compassion is a much-needed one.

Thorfinn’s journey is a reminder that it is possible to overcome anger and violence, and to find a path to peace. It is a journey that is worth following, and it is a journey that can inspire us all.

Why Greek Statues Have Small Penis?

I always found it weird that this huge muscluar Greek men had small penises.

    greek

From my deep search into this rabbit hole and jumping from wikipedia to encyclopedia britanica to site and reasearch the conclusion was that the ancient greeks believed that a small penis was a sign of the wise and a man with stoic features, hence he is not always out there doing Hedonistic stuff and missing out on the true pleasures of life and large or longer penises show the other way round.

And honestly i do think this a valid view i do understand what they are saying, but does this mean that socrates had a small dick? idk i will leave that to you the reader.

And here are some bullet points i was able to collect researching this topic :

    • In his play The Clouds (c. 419–423 BC), ancient Greek playwright Aristophanes summed up the ideal traits of his male peers as “a gleaming chest, bright skin, broad shoulders, tiny tongue, strong buttocks, and a little prick.”

    • Historian Paul Chrystal has also conducted research into this ancient ideal. “The small penis was consonant with Greek ideals of male beauty,” he writes in his book In Bed with the Ancient Greeks (2016). “It was a badge of the highest culture and a paragon of civilization.”

    • Lustful, depraved satyrs, in particular, were rendered with very large, erect genitals, sometimes almost as tall as their torsos. According to mythology, these creatures were part-man, part-animal, and totally lacked restraint—a quality reviled by Greek high society. “Big penises were vulgar and outside the cultural norm, something sported by the barbarians of the world,” writes Chrystal. Indeed, across many an amphora pot and frieze, well-endowed satyrs can be seen drinking and pleasuring themselves with abandon.

    • In Greek comedy, fools also routinely sported large genitals—“the sign of stupidity, more of a beast than a man,” according to Chrystal. So, too, did artistic representations of the Egyptians, says Lear, who were long-time enemies of the Greeks.

    • “the penis was never a badge of virility or manliness in Ancient Greece as it was in other cultures,” Chrystal writes. “Potency came from the intellect needed to power man’s responsibility to father children, prolong the family line and the oikos (the family unit or household), and sustain the polis (the city-state).”

    Jin; An Ideal For Masculinity

Calm Minded, Disciplined, Skilled Swordsman, Strong and Compassionate.

    Jin

In the previous blog post i explained why Mugen is an ideal for masculinity, you can read it Mugen; An Ideal For Masculinity – Cup Of Tea – Your Daily Dose Of Philosophy here. So now in this blog post i will try to show that Jin can also be an ideal for masculinity because he poses certain characteristics that i think every man should poses and is yin to mugens yang.

Jin is a skilled swordsman and a wandering ronin. He is also a complex and well-developed character who embodies many of the qualities that make for an ideal masculinity.

First, Jin is strong and capable. He is a skilled swordsman who can hold his own against any opponent. He is also physically fit and agile, able to move with grace and speed. This strength and capability make him a protector and provider, qualities that are traditionally associated with masculinity.

Second, Jin is independent and self-reliant. He does not need anyone to take care of him, and he is always willing to help others. This independence and self-reliance make him a man of honor and integrity, qualities that are also valued in traditional masculinity.

Third, Jin is compassionate and kind. He is always willing to help those in need, even if it means putting himself in danger. This compassion and kindness make him a caring and nurturing figure, qualities that are often overlooked in traditional masculinity. He is also well trained in the martial arts unlike mugen who freestyles the samurai technique

Fourth, Jin is intelligent and resourceful. He is able to think quickly and solve problems creatively. This intelligence and resourcefulness make him a valuable asset to any group, and they also make him a man of wit and humor.

Fifth, Jin is humble and modest. He does not brag about his accomplishments, and he is always willing to learn from others. This humility and modesty make him a man of wisdom and understanding. Unlike mugen who dunks in your face but honestly we need a bit of mugen in us can’t argue with that, some people don’t get it unless you dunk on them.

In conclusion, Jin is an ideal for masculinity because he embodies many of the qualities that are traditionally valued in men. He is strong, capable, independent, compassionate, intelligent, resourceful, humble, and modest. These qualities make him a man of honor, integrity, caring, wit, humor, wisdom, and understanding. He is a role model for all men, and he is a reminder that masculinity can be expressed in many different ways.

Jin is an inspiration to many people, and he shows that it is possible to be a strong and capable man without being aggressive or macho. He is a reminder that masculinity can be expressed in many different ways, and that it is important to be kind, compassionate, and understanding. That is why through out the series we see Jin being the yin to Mugens yang. Balancing out the equation Le Chatelier’s principle.

    Hp Lovecraft On Death

Death is a universal concept, something that all living things must face. But what is death, really? What happens to us when we die?

    love_craft

These are questions that have been pondered by philosophers and theologians for centuries, and there is no one answer that everyone agrees on. HP Lovecraft was fascinated by the concept of death, and it is a recurring theme in his work. In his stories, death is often depicted as a dark and mysterious force, something that is both feared and desired. Lovecraft’s characters are often driven by a desire to cheat death, to find some way to escape its inevitable grip.

In the story “The Call of Cthulhu,” a group of explorers travel to the South Pacific in search of a mysterious island. They believe that the island is home to a giant, ancient creature called Cthulhu, who is said to be the master of death. The explorers eventually find the island, but they are driven insane by what they see there. They realize that Cthulhu is real, and that he is waiting for them in the darkness.

The story “The Whisperer in Darkness” tells the tale of a man who discovers that a race of subterranean beings is living beneath the Earth. These beings are immortal, and they view death with indifference. They believe that death is simply a transition to another state of being, and they are not afraid of it.

Lovecraft’s stories explore the different ways that people deal with death. Some people are afraid of it, while others embrace it. Some people try to cheat death, while others accept it as a natural part of life. Lovecraft’s work shows that there is no one right way to think about death, and that it is a subject that can evoke a wide range of emotions.

    Mugen; An Ideal For Masculinity

Samurai champloo should be the standard of life.

    Mugen

Well to anyone who knows me they know that I am a die hard fan of samurai champloo, I mean you can argue all you want but there is no other anime that compares to it in aesthetic, sound tracks … I mean Nujabes made all the sound tracks Nujabes, the nostalgic elements the underlying subtle messages, the story telling and the interlinking of ideas in the show, I mean the only show I can think of that compares to it is probably cowboy-bepop because they do have the same japanese anime director Shinichirō Watanabe other than that im free for anyone to change my mind that there is no anime better than samurai champloo out there.

So back to the topic, let me try and convince you why mugen on of the characters of the show is an ideal for masculinity.

Mugen is a ronin, or masterless samurai, who is known for his wild and unpredictable nature. He is skilled in martial arts and is always willing to fight, even when outnumbered or outmatched. Mugen is also a skilled thief and is not afraid to bend the rules or even break the law to get what he wants.

Despite his rough exterior, Mugen is a complex and sympathetic character. He is deeply loyal to his friends and is always willing to put his life on the line for them. He is also a fiercely independent spirit (something every guy of my generations needs to learn) who refuses to be controlled by anyone.

Mugen embodies many of the qualities that are traditionally associated with masculinity, such as strength, courage, and independence. However, he also challenges some of these traditional ideas. For example, he is not afraid to express his emotions, even if it means being vulnerable. He is also not afraid to ask for help when he needs it. Boys don’t cry but Men do isn’t that how the saying goes.

He is not afraid to be himself, even if it means breaking the mold. He is also a strong and capable individual who is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in.

For these reasons, Mugen can be seen as an ideal for masculinity. He is a complex and well-rounded character who embodies many of the positive qualities that we admire in men. He is also a reminder that there is no one right way to be a man, Why because we also have Jin another take on masculinity, I will be writing about that one sooner this week I hope. However, it is important to note that Mugen is not perfect.

He is also capable of violence and aggression. He is also often reckless and impulsive. These are not qualities that we would necessarily want to encourage in all men. Cause some can lead to destruction but certainly if its for the greater good F*** it just do it, take the risk and do it.

Ultimately, Mugen is a good role model for masculinity. Because he is a complex and fascinating character who challenges our traditional ideas about what it means to be a man.

    Change my mind.

Depression, Anxiety and Suicidal Thoughts are nothing new for my generation. Everyone struggles with them.

“An estimated 3.8% of the population experience depression, including 5% of adults (4% among men and 6% among women), and 5.7% of adults older than 60 years. Approximately 280 million people in the world have depression. More than 700 000 people die due to suicide every year. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in 15–29-year-olds.” this is taken from the WHO.

So yeah why is everyone depressed, why is everyone anxious and on the verge of suicide. Now we can rant a lot about this but I will try to sum up the idea in simple blocks.

    1. Society

Societal norms and expectations can lead one to be depressed and suicidal. Not acting the way you are expected to act or not achieving the results which are expected from you can lead to depression which may lead one to suicidal thoughts. I am not arguing that societal norms are a bad thing and should be cropped out of the image because its essential in building a strong community. What I am trying to point out is that as well as the benefits of societal norms some of the burdens could be bad. If things do not turn out as should be the burdens on the individual should not be a mentally draining. And the big part of the role here is played out by other members of the society and not making the individual feel isolated, lost cause or even a failure.

    2. Dopamine

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that plays a role in motivation, pleasure, and movement. Low levels of dopamine have been linked to depression. This is because dopamine is involved in the brain’s reward system, which is responsible for processing pleasurable experiences. When dopamine levels are low, people may have difficulty experiencing pleasure, which can lead to symptoms of depression such as anhedonia (loss of interest in activities), fatigue, and apathy. That’s as far as Wikipedia and healthmd. So as far my research went here is a brief list of points on how dopamine can cause depression.

    • Dopamine is released when we experience something pleasurable, such as eating a delicious food, listening to music, or spending time with loved ones. This release of dopamine reinforces the behavior, making us more likely to do it again in the future.
    • When dopamine levels are low, we may not experience pleasure from these activities as much, which can lead to a decrease in motivation and interest in life.
    • Low dopamine levels can also lead to changes in brain structure and function, which can further contribute to depression.

And what better way to mess with your dopamine graph levels than social media and doom scrolling the internet.

    3. Tomorrow

Sometimes the thought of not figuring it out and not being able to comprehend what will happen tomorrow can be a major factor for depression and stress. People just feel overwhelmed. So my reply to this would be the future is not going to sneak up and catch you one day. There’s only today and after today. You don’t need to know exactly what you’re going to do a week from now, a year from now or an hour from now. Just focus on what you can do today to prepare yourself for tomorrow. One day you’ll be far past this day and you’ll wonder why you were ever worried. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed take a break once in a while. Take it one step at a time

Now there might be a lot more reasons one could be depressed and suicidal but in my opinion I think this are the main reasons for gen-z being depressed. Me I’m more of an old soul boomer type of guy but now my solution to this would be to take a break once and notice the little things in life, the fragments of paradise in life the people in your life, your health, your relationships, the unusual laughter’s and smiles with your friends. The new bits of knowledge’s and experiences you gather. There is beauty in the mundane and ordinary things around us and I think noticing that might help. And on a side note you can hit the gym and start journaling that too does wonders
